Homosexual COGIC pastor murdered; new details surface

Originally published on GCMW Aug 22, 2008

When will this madness end?

We reported to you earlier this year that the presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), Bishop Charles Blake  promised he would make it a priority of his administration to deal with what appears to be numerous cases of clergy sexual abuse and criminal sexual activity. So far, nothing has been done.

Meanwhile, the devastation caused by wolves pretending to be pastors continues. And their primary target: young boys who are seduced into their web of sexual terror.

A Memphis CBS news today aired new revelations on the story of Pastor Ronald Paige who was murdered in his home in April. Now, the man’s 21 year old killer has confessed and told the reason why. The pastor was attempting to forcibly rape him. What’s more, the pastor has a long history of molesting teen boys at his church. Six other victims have already made statements to police.

A neighbor of Paige said he always kept to himself. “He was a good person. He helped the homeless. We saw homeless men coming in and out and he helped them all out all the time. He’s very good with these people.” Paige was also married but not living with his wife. The 21 year old who murdered him was also homeless and had been “taken in” by Paige.

One mother told the reporter that her 15 year old son was molested by Paige but when she complained to Bishop LT Walker, she and her family were driven out of the church. This is almost identical to the story of Gwendolyn Fox of Atlanta. Her 15 year old son Tobias was molested by COGIC General Board member the late Bishop JD Husband. But her attempts to get justice were rebuffed and rebuked by church officials. Mrs. Fox and Tobias gave me an  full, exclusive interview which I chronicled in my book 2002 book Touching A Dead Man.

The clearly frustrated Memphis reporter said that after repeated attempts to contact COGIC officials at the headquarters and at Arkansas First Jurisdiction, there has been a virtual stone wall. Typical of COGIC officials who are more concerned with their “name, image and assets” than the lives of the innocent boys who will suffer the effects of their sexual trauma for years to come. Perhaps its time for a major Catholic church-style financial beating of COGIC before they will do something about this blight in their midst.

Bishop Blake, who will be speaking at the upcoming Democratic National Convention “interfaith gathering”, needs to remember what he said less than one year ago:

We now live in a litigious society. People file lawsuits for every conceivable grievance, whether real or imagined. To protect the name, image, and assets of the Church of God in Christ, we must take positive steps to seriously investigate very case of alleged sexual abuse by the clergy. We must stand behind and support those who are falsely accused of sexual improprieties and found innocent by the courts. We must also insure that the Church act quickly to take firm and positive action against those who violate the sanctity of their positions and are found guilty of sexual abuse and other sexual improprieties.”

But so far, even to the shock of secular news, COGIC has refused to act or even respond to the allegations about Pastor Ronald Paige.  Video and writeups of the shocking development here and here.

I’m not surprised. This is infiltrating every Church it seems. From the Catholic abuse scandal, the Anglican Gay marriage, and now the acceptance of this in the largest African American denomination COGIC.

I can only say that we know from scripture that this great falling away and apostasy was inevitable prior to Christ’s return. We are seeing us return to the days of Noah and Sodom and Gomorrah where sexual licentiousness is running rampant.

    It wont be long now.

I actually saw the particulars of this case in great detail just Wednesday night on A& E’s “First 48 Hrs.” program. For me, this Pastor’s lifestyle was obvious with the first televised shots of his photo and his apartment interior. In fact, I told my wife what the probable scenario was the moment the investigators stepped inside the crime scene, and the 21 year-old confirmed it to the letter during his confession. Now if I, sitting very far away in my living room and very far removed from both people and events can perceive the outstanding flaw in the Pastor’s character, surely someone within COGIC had to have known about this man.

GCMW: Bro K same here. I remember when I first heard of the murder in April, I had a passing thought that something about that didnt seem right. I guess it was the remarks by his wife who wasnt living with him. Strange. Satan will help feed your sinful passion until it strangles you to death. Spiritually and naturally.

Are the COGIC the largest African American denomination? I thought it was the National Baptist Convention USA Inc?

The media probably wants to keep the pedophile thing synonymous with the Catholic church and not synonymous with gay pedophiles as it should be. That’s the real common denominator.

I just saw this on “The First 48″ this past Tuesday. Man…it’s sad that the COGIC is trying to skirt around this issue. I’ll comment more later on for I am at work now.

The National Baptist Convention is indeed the largest. COGIC is the largest Pentecostal, Black denomination.

Well, well, well, it appears that Bishop Blakes words have fallen on some deaf ears. If he was serious, then the Bishop Blake will silence and remove the errant Bishop who was complicit in a murder by refusing to address the sexual abuse of a teenaged boy, years ago. This would be just and right. It would also signal to all others that Bishop Blake is serious about protecting the innocent, the vulnerable and the victims of those who prey on them. I will be waiting to see what actually happens.

This is very troubling as a Pastor in the cogic to know that people like this are allowed to operate in their sin with no repercussion for their actions. What is also troubling is the stone wall of silence from the leadership of the church, who hide behind their positions to protect the intuition. They never seem to realize that their silence and powerlessness to do anything to help the people get free from these wolves operating in the church is also part of the problem. I am reminded of what Jesus said about the religious leaders of his time (religious leaders) “Mat 23:26-28 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity”. Our leaders have become weak and passive and unwilling to deal with these devils because their positions and power have blinded them to the uncleanness in there own church. What good is church policies on paper if know one has the courage to enforce the policies “oh yea” we must protect the intuition. Somebody needs to remind these men that the intuition is nothing if the men that run the intuition have no character. This is why Jesus is the head of the church so that the church won’t become just another intuition run by falling men. The church is facing a real challenge in these last days and that is a lack of “Born Again” leaders operating under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Elder Jimmy maybe Bishop Blake is busy right now preparing for his speech at the Democratic National Convention. It is a pretty important function you know. Maybe after he gets back and drinks a cold glass on tea, he’ll think about it. Just maybe.

Homosexuality, Lesbianism, Adultery, Fornication and Divorce has become prevelent within all churches it used to be not named among us.. but when you lower the standards of Holiness, you will find that Satan can come right in the midst of the church and transform himself into angel of light.. most are not able to discern what is GOD and what is not…most believers in this hour have lost the spirit of discernment. which comes only by prayer , fasting and knowing studying the BIble which has become a thing of the past .. Carnal so called Pastors who have lavish lifestyles would dare not rebuke or deal with any of these issues…this would stop the big tithes and offerings.. the Body of Christ as a whole needs to go back to the BIble …repent and and do our first work over!!

    You know.
In light of all of this, we have to go back to the old landmark in terms of sexual purity. According to Ephesians 4:15 we as true Christians must speak the truth in LOVE about sexual issues. We allow divorce and remarriage, we can premarital sex is ok because at least they’re heterosexual. At then we say that homosexual sexual acts are ok in the church as long as the “church”doesn’t know. We are losing too many people to the enemy. We really need to people that some people are called to marriage and some people are called to live a celibate pure life which Paul did throughout the New Testament. Marriage is not the ideal for all people but in conclusion the church needs to be the true church and tell the truth in LOVE without name calling, sly remarks, and degrading terms.

Not only am I outraged by this story, but I CONTINUE TO BE OUTRAGED BY BISHOP C.E. BLAKE’S LUKEWARM (AND EVEN INSENSITIVE) STANCE ON THIS ISSUE. The above statement by Blake is from his “Person To Person” communication sent out to all the Bishop and Pastors last November.

I’m going to record my comments on video now and put them up today. I’m going to call it, “Bishop CE Blake is MILKTOAST on Sexual Abuse!”

    This is an outrage.

@NYTN…this is beyond outrageous in light of how long it has occured and how public the revelations have been and the stone faced refusal by COGIC leadership to enact change and protect the young and vunerable.
Based on what Bishop Blake said, he out right lied. How can be so concerned about “saving Africa’s children” when the CHILDREN OF HIS CHURCH are at such risk?
Why doesnt the COGIC pastors and elders council demand and immediate response? Every self respecting COGIC pastor ought not to remain silent while this further causes shame on the body of Christ and blackens the name of COGIC.
If they dont act they will become synonymous with the Catholic church priest abuse scandals. There are already enough cases (while not necessarily related) to prove that point.

I wish you would have directed me to this last week. I was with 4 Bishops Friday. 3 of them were General Board candidates.

There is unrest and I’m trying to get some attention so that a new platform will come in along with the new appointees. I’m workin’ it but I need your help on info.

Please email me if something happens or changes. Knowledge is power and I need to be prepared in addition to what we’ve already discussed personally.

Thank you for your encouragements and please continue to pray for change, me and us. God bless.

If this scourge of homosexuality is to be removed from the church. You must start with the music departments. That’s where it came in, and thats’ where its power base operates. No openly gay music director would be in his position without the tactical consent and involvement of the pastor. Just like in the Catholic church all Bishops were at one time Priests/Pastors. Once that is realized, then you no longer need to wonder why this is allowed to continue. In the Baptist church their is no upward structure like COGIC, It must be attacked at the deacon/Trustee level. After all, what was Satan’s job before he was fired and expelled?

    reply to GCMWATCH:

    Gcmwatch:

You’re so right that’s it’s going to take a major lawsuit against COGIC for them to get the picture. COGIC has several sexual abuse lawsuits against them right now. There’s Sherman Allen in Fort Worth which by far is the biggest, then you have Charles Smith in Seattle, Wa, next you have minister Leonard Smith of Asheville, NC, and then there’s one out of Kentucy which I can’t find right now online, but when I do I’ll post it.

I think Bishop Blake statement at the beginning of the year shows what he’s concerned about. He is concerned with protecting COGIC assets and the pastors who are accused. It amazes me in that statement that Bishop Blake never mentioned anything about helping the victims. I know this isn’t the first time COGIC has heard about Pastor Paige behavior and character. I hope the young man who killed Paige is found innocent by reason of self defense. COGIC really needs to reexamine its process of ordination for ministers and elders because it’s way too easy to get license in COGIC.

I know COGIC kicked Sherman Allen out but I found a video online which was very recent in which Sherman Allen was conducting any ordination service at his church. I am told that this took place only a month or two ago. Here’s the link if anyone cares:

    http://video.aol.com/video-detail/ordination-at-shiloh-institutional-cogic/496318008

Even know he’s out of COGIC it just shows the like of accountability, pride, and arrogance which he’s still leading people astray. I think the only way to really stop all this abuse Gcmwatch, the members of these churches must hold these pastors accountable. Bishop Blake really needs to make this a top priority of cleaning up immorality within COGIC, much more so then anything else. I see Bishop Blake splashed on every web link of COGIC’s website but you don’t see one hotline or link for those to report sexual abuse or any other misconduct among leaders. It’s sad!

Oh, P.S; what’s the latest on the Sherman Allen lawsuit? I heard he plead the 5th from a Charisma Magazine February 08 issue.

    Hmmmm.

Becoming friends with the political machine instead of caring for and feeding the flock of GOD, taking oversight in which he has appointed [him].

    These preachers make me sick!

Awash,It is naive to assume that homosexuality came into the church via the music department. Homosexuality is everywhere; as we can now clearly see. If you read some of the history of the church leaders (in antiquity) you will discover that the sexual behavior of leaders in the church have run the gamut.

I do think you are right about a power base being established in the music departments. There must be a willingness of the part of the leadership of the church to clean house from pulpit to the door as it relates to sexual purity. I have known some dead-up (as we used to say) fornicators, adulters and gay musicians. It is the compromise around the need for musicians where the church makes it mistake.

I personally believe my uncle in law was gay, everyone knows that, but did he really deserve to die. Harris fought him off apparently but instead of running and contacting the police he killed Ronnie Paige, stole his mercedes, and over 10,000 dollars. I believe this man had it planned from the beginning to accuse Paige of rape to give him a good excuse to kill him to get his money. Hey it is believeable Ronnie’s gay, then you have more parents and kids making that accustion now that Ronnie’s dead so he can’t defend himself. These so called parents allowing it to happen and not going to the police then?? Come on if my child told me a man tried to touch him, I would go to cops right then and there if I don’t go after the man myself. Again, I feel like people should stop talking about Ronnie and his lifestyles, and realize he was MURDERED!! Harris should go to jail for life.

Yvonne, let me say to you that I am very sorry and saddened at the loss of Pastor Paige’s life. All life is precious and all souls belong to God. Its not God’s will that any should perish in sin. This is tragic to all involved, no matter how you look at it.

But because of his position and the problems that a man in his position has caused by molestation of young boys, we cannot ignore that. His actions WERE reported to church authorities, but they did nothing, so please dont blame the victims.

The justice system will handle his murderer. We are not saying Harris was justified nor or we suggesting any leniency for the murderer. He has confessed and the law will handle his deeds.

But one thing we have to realize is that sin is deadly. And those who engage, will surely reap its payment. The bible says the “wages” of sin is death. As a pastor your uncle should not have lived a double life in sin. God also has a system of justice and punishment and it is justified. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap.

I also agree with you that if the allegations are true, the victims should have went to the police. But there are a lot of factors you may not be considering as to why they did not go to the police. Some in the church misuse the scripture “touch not mine anointed” to protect people in power who have done wrong. To a member of a church who believes that they have no recourse (even to go to the law) this is a powerful deterrent.

    Our condolences to your family.

    Exactly right! GCMW ,
People in the church Pentecostal, Apostolic and Charasmatic are somewhat brainwashed into thinking that they cannot raise questions or accusations against someone in miinstry without “losing out with GOD” or being shunned or “silenced”. It is a type of evil manipulation. I have a cousin by marriage that was molested in the basement of the church by an associate minister and it was reported and nothing was done. I also have an in-law ( a former minister) that impregnated a teen choir member who was underaged. These things were basically dealt with in secret to “preserve the man’s ministry” because he is “anointed”. That’s load of crap! “Touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm” has to be views along with the NT reqiremwnts for those in leadership in the church. When a man fondles a boy he ceases to be a prophet of GOD. There are two ways to be a false prophet. 1. To prophesy something that doesn’t come to pass. 2. To claim to be a man or woman of GOD and not be in actuality. Both are false.

The deceased pastor was a molester! Yes, he was a victim of murder. That’s the reason his previous crimes/sins came to light.

There is a broader issue here that is pertinent to the very existence of this sight. He was a man in ministry. HIs Bishop became aware of his issue. There was no justice for the victim. The real question regarding the people coming forward after the pastor’s death is NOT why didn’t they go to the police. It is why didn’t his Bishop go to the police! Statistically, boys are much less likely to report their abuse. It is more acceptable to society to see a girl as a victim. When its a boy people ask questions like why didn’t you day something? Try shame, embarrasment, riddicule, confusion, anger, depression, fear of peer opinions and taunting as a few reasons why a boy would not want anyone to know. He was guilty of sexually inappropriate contact with a minor; a 15 year old boy. Notihng was done by the church officials. This is what the story IS.

It is tragic that the pastor was murdered. Truly. He also escapes the scrutiny of his life and the contradictions it held.

    Yvonne:

Well, that answers my “why don’t these people go to the police” angle. Yes, it does appear plausible that this homeless person plotted against your relative from the beginning. You are correct: sin does not excuse sin, and this murderer – thief should indeed be punished in a manner commisserate to his deeds.

Perversness will be be the governing spirit that will give birth to many seducing spirits.. many Leaders and Laymembers will get caught up in this Laodeocian movement , this is part of the “strong delusion” that Jesus said would fool the very elect…. its unfortunate that this Pastor lost his life because he could not control his flesh…which can be hard to control sometimes.. the church isn’t really ready to deal openly with men with sexual issues especally black men..COGIC should have something in place within the orginization that Members can go to get the help they need with out being judged .Its a possibility that the other brother involved in this relationship may have been consenting for a period of time and when he couldnt get his way.. decided to murder this Pastor.. Sad to say this murdering spirit has killed many black men …So many have lost the value of LIFE..

There must be an organization to which churches have to submit to in order to maintain accountability. There is a GROSS lack of ACCOUNTABILITY in the church. As someone who plans on starting a church, I am asking for prayer and guidance to establish as many ACOUNTABILITY POINTS as possible. This is not to say I have any sexual immorality issues but to say I am a human who still is susceptible to flesh issues. Paul said nothing good is in the flesh. So we cannot even afford to trust ourselves, but trust in God’s power to keep us.

TO IhaveAlotToSay and GCMWatch regarding the latest on Sherman Allen:

Sherman Allen did indeed plead the 5th amendment during a deposition earlier this year. However, according to sources, SHERMAN ALLEN HAS BEEN ORDERED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.

Not only that, but according to solid sources, HE MUST ANSWER THOSE QUESTION IN THE PRESENCE OF THE JUDGE WHO WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE OF THE DEPOSITION (which is almost unheard of in civil cases).

More later as time and my sources permit.

For MinCraige and others, please see http://www.netgrace.org. G.R.A.C.E. stands for Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment.
It is a site started by Boz Tchividjian, the grandson of Billy Graham. He was formerly a district attorney, who now advises churches and other Christian organizations on what to do in situations like this. His heart, however, is not only to show churches how to respond to abuse situations, but to show them how to best prevent these situations in the same place.
MinCraige, thanks for _wanting_ and being open to accountability. We all need that — especially those in any position of power.

…By the way, I am deeply saddened, and angered over Bishop Blake’s emphasis over a loss of assets rather than a longing for truth, justice, and healing for the victims first, and then for the perpetrators. Cover-ups hurt everyone. The Catholic Church scandals came to light because their leadership WOULDN’T DEAL with these hateful sins against the innocent. God was bound to bring it to the light because no one dealt with the problems on the individual and parish levels. -Deeply sad.

I am very saddened and sickened by what I am reading. I came into cogic almost 10 yeasrs ago. I have seen so much corruption it is disgusting. They “allow” people to praise God only to raise money. They let men preach who are not even well grounded in the word. They are always talking about the “former glory” of cogic. I find that many young people like myself are disgouraged and distgusted at what they see happening in these service. Jesus words come true when he said “Through the traditions of men they make the word of God to none effect”. I am personally fed up with the hypocrisy and the leadership ignoring things that needed to be corrected. God is a merciful God and it is only by cogic humbly returning to Him can these things be corrected. “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, seek my face and TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, then I will hear from heaven and heal the land……..Amen!

    LastDaySaint…

I know what you are talking about. Igrew up COGIC and it used to be a God focused body of believers. It is only a shadow of what it used to be and I, like so many others, left. I chose to serve God without the issues of COGIC. I pray that it will one day return, but in a world where more people are educated and knowledgeable, COGIC seems to be behind. A big reason for that, I believe, is that the organization is severely divided. Some churches teach one thing while others teach another. There are no uniform qualifications for pastoral leadership and no uniform knowledge basedrequired to shepherd a congregation. A person I know joined a COGIC about 7 years ago and very soon left. When I asked her why, she said she was disappointed withthe lack of bible knowledge within the church. Her statement was, and I quote, “with all of the bible bands, ypwws, sunday schools, etc. I expected a wealth ok scriptural knowledge and it just wasn’t there”. I recently visited a COGIC for sunday school and I was shocked. The teacher, elders, mothers, barely hit on the Sunday School lesson. They picked out one or two words in a verse that they were familiar with and began talking about those words in a context that was not pertinent to the lesson. I also left that morning.

Let’s just pray for COGIC, but I believe for the sake of the kingdom, people need to be informed before they make a decision to join any church and it may be better for new converts to seek out a independent ministry without the organizational sturcture, overhead, politics, or committments that COGIC has.

And also, being COGIC is just plain EXPENSIVE!!!

Unfortunately, this is not only an issue in the COGIC church, or limited to pedophile homosexual behavior. Bishop Blake and a host of COGIC bishops look at blatantly gay men in their choirs, administrations, and the church pulpits w/collars on. They, and leaders throughout other denominations and other churches (many of whom have no REAL accountability), do nothing and there is a reason. The devil cannot cast himself out. Church “foke” (folk) are more concerned w/protecting their rebellious leaders than holding them accountable. These men who are sexual perverts chase men, boys, women and girls and almost 99% of the time, the clergy will be protected and the other party will be branded, marked, and used by the “devil” to set the “mand” of God up. We see the don’t expose the man of God in his drunkenness doctrine run amuck. The Bishops call folks and tell them to be quiet, a righteous man has fallen-again, and again, and again, and again, with plans to fall every time the lust needs to be fed. Professional pimps, whores, and perverts are laden throughout the church because the church is accepting of their lifestyles and drunk with false power and “anerting” (anointing). People would rather have their gay pedophile music from Mr. X than listen to a pure voice from a man who lived an acceptable life in God w/out earrings and the latest “gear” on. The church will support the Bishop w/his fifth wife who pimps women and watch a praying wife suffer. COGIC bishops and others address these issues: don’t be fooled. They just don’t address it Biblically, they cover each other’s mess up w/abominably doctrines to suit their cause.

    U NO U PREACHING!!!!

I ESPECIALLY LIKE YOUR USE OF THE “WERD” “ANERTING” AND “MAND” AND “FOKE”.

It always appeared to me that an educated parishoner was not welcome in COGIC. When I aksed questions, I was branded as one who was not going alone with the program or not “obeying leadership”. It seems to me that the success in the past was based on leading people who accepted everything they were told without question! Even when parishoners observed sin in leadership, they were taught not to “touch the anerting”. This is a new day and so many churches and organizations have risen so that people today do not have to accept the compromising ways of certain COGIC leaders. Not all COGIC is bad, but it sure appears as if theye don’t do anything about the bad ones.

ALSO, it is a shame for the presiding bishop’s wife to take the church to court. I’M NOT SAYING SHE SHOULD OR SHOLDN’T, IT’S JUST A SHAME THAT SINCE THEY ARE ALL SAINTS, THEY CAN;T SETTLES THIS AS THE APOSTLE PAUL STATED THAT MATTERS SUCH AS THESE SHOULD BE SETTLED.

Hell has he chosen. That’s why people don’t come to Church because of people like lost dead so called preacher. Shame on the officals that kept this man in the pulpit. Jesus got tired and removed him.

I’m sorry to hear this is going on in the COGIC. I watched Bishop Patterson many times and I would never think such things like this would be going in this organization. Instead of being critics lets come together as Baptized believers and pray. The enemy wants to shame the Name of Christ. Leaders deal with the problem according to the Bible. My prayers are with COGIC. Let us that are Called not get off focus who the real enemy is at this time. Again Leaders I beseech you to deal with the problems. This is a strong organization. Don’t let it go down under unresolved problems.

“The enemy wants to shame the Name of Christ.”

Looks like he gets a lot of help from “baptized believers” . Im not sure we can blame this one on the devil.

gcmwatch, you need to do an article on the very issue of “baptized belivers” helping the devil.

God in His perfect wisdom and mercy has so designed things, that the devil can do nothing unless a human is involved. And the devil can’t force ‘baptized
believer’ to do anything. Yet sadly, oftentimes we give him more support than even some of his own demons.

First of all let me say that I don’t agree with homosexuality but then there are a lot of things that all of us are guilty of that’s not right. Let’s start by self examination and after that I am sure we will not be found guiltless. Let’s stop being so judge mental. I am almost sure that those that respond in such a way don’t even attend church. Be Blessed and obtain a prayer life.

GCMW: Elder Johnson, your comments are a really lame and shameful. Among other things, a major crime here was committed, not sneaking an ice cream bar out of the fridge. How is calling out the molestation of young boys by a pastor “judge mental”? Please explain that.
